Events

Shelkowna

Shelkowana is the sector capital for the Shelsa sector and a tourist haven that provides a perfect getaway for any sentient with the money to spend. It is known to host over 10 billion tourists annually. Some are drawn by its vivid environment, ancient culture or stunning architecture but the majority come because of universally renown Big Mouse Theme Park, located just a few hours outside the capital city of Makrin.

Republic intelligence received and passed along credible information that Vicar Garrua, high ranking member of the banking clan and a known separatist leader, was spotted in Makin City and meeting with a ranking member of the sector government. Believing that his capture might help pressure to the Banking Clan to reduce or withdraw their support of the Confederacy, Republic Command ordered the 13th fleet to use all available resources to lock down the city and secure the target. The Ascendancy, along with attendant escorts, jump into the system and settles into position above the capital city. Master Haneul takes the first corp of Clone Troopers to Makin Galactic Starport while the Jedi Generals are charged with using the second corp to secure Greencliff Regional Starport, then moving out into the city to search.

The Jedi successfully secured the spaceport with little resistance. Leaving Raj (and his padawan) to set himself up in the port's control tower, the rest of the Jedi head for the sector capital building to begin questioning the local politicians. Starting with Prime Minister Barshnis Choard and moving downward, the Jedi create a complicated Venn diagram round down potential suspects for the official the separatists were here to meet. The process of elimination (and a helpful public records droid) eventually drop the potential traitors to the single digits.

While they were working on this, Wrrlevgebev discovered some activity on a distant platform of the regional starport. Investigating, he discovered a pirate-connected smuggler crew who seemed oddly desperate to get off world. Wondering if this might be related to Vicar Garrua's escape plan, Tammine and Zak decided to track them to the spaceport bar and run a stakeout. The stakeout revealed a Lieutenant stopping by to berate the crew for drawing attention to themselves. The two Jedi followed the lieutenant down into the city's catacombs and into a hidden section where they discovered what appeared to be the temporary headquarters of a major smuggling operation. The pair hides and listens in the halls, but an errant sound sends security droids their direction.

Back at the capital building, Tyndale and Ami talk to the chief administrator Vilim Disra at his home, who provides them with the final information they need to discover a secret meeting the Prime Minister attended at the Nightoak Museum. Confronting the Prime Minister, he admits to the meeting but claims it was with Lotti Disra, the Museum Curator (who is also the chief administrator's niece) because of his suspicions about Vilim Disra. After confirming with Lotti, the two Jedi return to the Administrator's house only to discover he's taken a sudden trip to Big Mouse Park.

Meanwhile, Wrrlevgebev and Shella move to follow up on the company that hired the smugglers. They discover that a shell company, Accredited Imports, had rented a large warehouse in the Farfarn district. They take a squad of clones with them and head over to investigate on site. The warehouse is in a quiet district, and after some initial exterior investigation, the Jedi try knocking. When that fails to get a response, they use a lightsaber to cut open the door and affect their entry. A few steps in, they suddenly find themselves facing hundreds of battle droid and at least a dozen AAT tanks.

-- End of session 1 --

Thanking the Force that the Separatists had not activated any of the more intelligent command droids, Shella and Wrrlevgevev hide their lightsabers and engage in some very slick fast-talking to convince the few active B1s that they are from the local planning commission, are not a threat, and will come back later. Backing a few blocks away, they find a safe looking ally and contact Master Haneul, filling her in on the presence of the Droid Army and requesting a full deployment of clones.

Down in the catacombs, Tammine and Zak manage to evade the second investigation by smugglers and listen in as the meeting breaks apart into actions. Tammine heads off to follow the local captain and the Lieutenant, who is clearly the man actually in charge, to “the drop” while Zak follows a set of gang members who are going to “check on the others."

Hearing about the deployment, Tyndale decides to join the impending assault force while Raj flies out to join Ami in tracking the suddenly elusive Vilim Disra. The pair are dropped off at Big Mouse Park’s lev-train entrance where the local security confirm that Vilim Disra had taken the previous train, and had seemed rather rushed and distracted. The two Jedi follow him via train, only to discover a mysterious agent has secreted a thermal detonator in their compartment. Quick action by Raj disarms the device, and the train arrives at Big Mouse Park safely.

With the clone troopers and even AT-ETs in place surrounding the warehouse and the surrounding buildings quietly evacuated, the Jedi begin the great battle by calling in an airstrike by the fleets new, top-of-the-line Y-wings. While the first bombing run demolishes a large portion of the warehouse’s roof, the second proves to be more contested, with all but one of the Y-wings being shot down by focused fire by the newly reactivated AATs held up in the building. With the air raid spent, the Jedi lead the clones into the assaulting the structure, only to discover the bodies of far fewer battle droids then had been there previously.

Meanwhile, over at Big Mouse Park, Ami and Raj (with the aid of park security) manage to locate a nervous looking Vilim Disra standing around the “Pirates of the Outer Rim” ride. They watch and record the hand-off taking place with the mysterious Lieutenant, then rush to arrest both. Ami chases down and catches Disra after the latter fails to make a dramatic leap onto a passing boat. Raj finally catches up with the Lieutenant onboard the border-train as it speeds around the park. After a brief but dangerous battle on the roof of the train, Raj recovers the briefcase of credit chips but the Lieutenant himself escapes.

Alerted to the battle by the shaking caused by bombardment, Zak returns to the surface and learns of the disappearing battle droids. Realizing that they might have easily descended into the sewers and catacombs that filled the under-city, Zak explains to the other Jedi how these tunnels could be used to redeploy the army anywhere in the city. Given the size of the force and the presence of the clones, only two final destinations presented themselves - the local spaceport and the government center.

Leaving the spaceport in Clone and Master Haneul’s hands, the Jedi all rendezvous and rush to the government center with whatever clone reinforcements they can muster. They deploy the majority of the clones to the parameter of the center while the Jedi themselves deep into the bowels of the structure to investigate the small utility corridors that interest (in a few locations) with the ancient catacomb system. Down there they discover the Tactical Droid leading a small force of battle droids deep into the heart of the center. They ambush the commando force and defeat it.

With the main battle over, the 13th fleet goes into clean-up mode. Clones are used to flush the catacombs for any droid stragglers and the interrogations of Vilim Disra and the local smuggling captain that Tammine recovered reveal that the secret separatist meeting had occurred the day before the Republic Forces had arrived and that the army had been smuggled into the city by use of the Bloodscar pirate/smuggler organization, a feared group that operated throughout dozens of sectors. With the attempted coup defeated and the show of force successful, Barshnis Choard and the rest of the parliament declare their full support for the Galactic Republic.
