The Duchy of Cape Velen encompasses the Dragon's Neck Peninsula, which is also known as the Velen Peninsula or the Tethyr Peninsula, and all the western coast down to and including Port Kir. It is made up of three counties, Firedrake, Fyraven and Greenshores, each of which is ruled by a Count. The whole of Cape Velen is ruled by a Duke, from Tordraken Castle. The current ruler is Duke Calchais Blackthorn.
Cape Velen was once part of the Kingdom of Tethyr but in 1424 they declared their independence. While this declaration created initial tension with Tethyr, over time relations between the two realms were re-established and they considered one another as allies.
