Corban
Corban is a native of Corellia who escaped to Coruscant to drive a taxi there for a living. The Corellian had been involved in some shady work back on his homeworld and escaped the grasp of CorSec who wanted a word with the man about some stolen goods. Instead, he took the advice of a friend and "left town".
For those who don't know, taxi drivers on Coruscant are some of the best airspeeder pilots in a the galaxy having to prove their skill and safety before being allowed the "free travel license" to drive outside of the designated lanes for traffic. And to everyone across the galaxy, Corellians are noted for their ability as pilots. For a while, Corban worked a decent job for decent pay. He even had dated a Justicar (if his former partners could see, they would faint), a beautiful orange-skinned twi-lek woman named Layla. But then the Empire started working with the Diktat on it's Law Enforcement, and Corban was on the list. When he was discovered on Coruscant, instead of sending the Justicars after Corban, the Empire had him labeled as a dangerous terrorist and sent a squad of Imperial Army troopers.
The troopers did what soldiers across the galaxy do to people they're told are dangerous terrorists. They started shooting and Corban did the only thing he could. He ran, taking Layla with him and evading TIE fighters in his Taxi. A small group of rebels snatched Corban off the street from a sweeper team of Army units, giving him a cover identity and getting him off Coruscant to the Rebel Alliance. However, Layla was not so fortunate. At the airlock to the ship to take them offworld, Layla caught a stun bolt and fell back out the airlock just as their starship was lifting off. Corban tried to grab her, but her fingers slipped through his and she fell the three meters to the docking bay floor. The last that Corban saw her was a squad of Imperial troopers swarming over her. The young man screamed, holding out his hand as if to compel the Force and grab the woman he loved from the clutches of Imperial forces.
Holonet news detailed the supposed sting and apprehension of a "rebel terrorist", detailing that one was shot and killed in the escape. Corban blames the Empire, and the Diktat to a lesser extent, for the circumstances that led to Layla getting shot, and the Corellion government who colluded with the Empire in labeling a petty criminal as a terrorist.
The Rebellion was thrilled with his ability to fly and rushed him through Starfighter training. Corban has been assigned to a new squadron, recently started to address unique issues. He is the pilot of Y-wing 1.
