The Loki class is actually a “catch-all” class of several different types of transports that have been modified as Q-ships. Although it is the Navy’s sacred duty to protect Imperial commerce, there are too many trade lanes to defend, and too few warships to do so. In addition, many pirate wolfpacks will stay away from heavily defended convoys, waiting for weaker prey. Q-ships offer the Imperium a way to turn the predators into the prey. Disguised as helpless merchantmen, they actually pack powerful macrobatteries and even lances. Their favored tactic is to heave to at the first sight of a pirate, pretending to surrender without a fight. When the raider is close enough, they run out their guns and give them massed broadsides at point-blank range. Although this can often defeat their opponents in a single crushing broadside, most Loki-class ships are still as slow and unwieldy as other merchantmen—not designed for sustained combat.

The stealth-trader Fortuitous Purpose has been in the Kampton free-trader family for numerous generations. While her original class of ship is long lost among innumerable rebuilds and refits, her current form is thin, unarmed, and most clearly defined by the Massive Theta 7 drive engines that give it an uncommon speed among the lesser transports of the galaxy.

Ship's Captain

Theodric Kampton.jpg

Theodric Dorian-Kampton is the youngest of Drake's captains in years, experience, and time with the dynasty, having only acquired all three in 830.M41. The favored nephew of the late Galeus Kampton, who was killed while transporting agents of the Serrated Query acting under the guise of an Inquisition band.

History

Sentillian born and raised, Theodric grew up in the lower spire caught between the political maneuverings of his mother and the dashing, near-heroic figure of his free trader uncle. He underwent the standard upper-class education for the spire born, showing neither a startling brilliance nor a degrading decadence that often mark the spire's children.

Prompted by a combination of boredom and seeking leadership experience, Thodric pressed for a commission in the Imperial Guard. Six months later he completed his training and became a lieutenant in the 17th Fusiliers. The fine training sunk deeper into the young noble's soul than many others, and he left with a more determined sense of purpose than many of his idle noble kin. This same determination lead him into the difficult, besieged state the Explorers found him in.

Rules

Master and Commander Theodric has passed through the best officer's training the Calixus Astra Millitarum has to offer and excelled. His ship gains +15% when defending against boarding actions.

Landsmen Theodric is newly come to the void and doesn't have the same instincts of place and movement. His ship suffers -10% to maneuverability when executing special orders.
