Biography

Stephen was born at the manor of Aston. In 1198 he was knighted. Stephen inherited his father's manor in 1202, the year that Gwendolyn was born. As a landed knight he owed fealty to Hugo Pantulf, Baron of Wem. In 1204 Stephen ran afoul of an ill tempered King John after his loss of Normandy. As a result his lands were confiscated and he, his wife and Gwendolyn's older brother, Richard, were imprisoned in Chester Castle. He wasn't released until 1212. It wasn't until then that he found out that his wife and son had died while imprisoned. Gwendolyn had survived because she was entrusted to a servant by Stephan's wife before their arrest. That saved Gwendolyn's life. While Stephen was in a prison Gwendolyn was raised by the servant she was entrusted to. Stephen petitioned for the returns of his lands, a request that King John denied. His former lord did give him a few pounds but would not help him further. Without the means to support himself and his young daughter he moved to Shrewsbury and rented some land where he tried to be a farmer. Something that he wasn't very good at. Recently he has been training Falcons for nobles until the covenant offered him a place stay. In return he has volunteered to help train the turb.
