Suntje is the only child of a small town smith and his wife, who died in childbirth. Needing to work and having little available family to watch the child, Suntje spent much of her youth in her father’s shop. As she got older, he gave her the soft white metals to play with, grudgingly teaching her how to work the harder red metals as she grew older and more insistent. It was during these years she imagined and eventually convinced herself of the story that her mother had in fact been a dwarf, explaining her unfeminine attraction to metalwork. By the time she reached her teenage years, turning her into a marriable woman seemed impossible, and she pressured her father into showing her the basics of the blacksmith’s art, which she picked up with astounding speed.

As she got older, she started to resemble her mother more, a reminder that strained the already difficult relationship between father and daughter. This was compounded by the rest of the town’s quiet (and occasionally not-so-quiet) disapproval of her studies. In her seventeenth year, after a final, anger-filled argument over her father’s intentions to put his shop in his (male) apprentice’s hands while he was away lead to her final dissatisfaction, leaving her determined to find a place that would appreciate her skills.

It was at that time that the jovial traveler Paden Lynton came to her village. His fantastic stories enchanted her, and the people he described sounded like the very kind of people who would be able to look past her size and gender to see her true skills. She packed up what few positions she could call her own and traveled south with Paden to join craftsman of Melverly

Mundane Qualities

Description

Although quite short (4’9”), Suntje is an extremely strong woman whose youth in the metalsmith’s forge had a strong mark. She is a relatively dark colored woman of Spanish descent (unbeknownst to her). She has dark brown eyes and hair along with the unusually tanned complexion that goes with it. She is typically found in the heat-resistant leathers of a metalworker or a simple, soot-marked dress.
