Robert was a steward for a local lord's manor house along the river just outside the town of Shrewbury. Obsessed with magic from a very young age, it was only a stern father and a sense of duty and loyalty that kept the man from running away to join Nova Semente. Later in life, a distrust of Jews and pride in his newly acquired position as manor steward worked to do what fear of punishment had done earlier. Despite this, he constantly questioned passing merchants and boatsmen about the activities of the near by wizards and their town.

Years passed with nothing to fulfill his passion but heresy and parlor tricks until a passing merchant mentioned, while selling the covenant's mead, that he'd overheard some of the young magi talking about striking out on their own, and that they would need people to work in their new covenant. Robert plugged him and his crew for as much information as possible and left the night with a peculiar feeling of serendipity.

Robert found himself with a son-in-law to take over his current position, skills these budding magi might need and enough saved money to live on for a few months if came to it. A week later, Robert and his family departed the manor that had been their home for decades and walked up river to Nova Stemente to offer their services in this new adventure.
